Jersey City high school student detained after lewd act in front of other students: police

A Ferris High School student was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after authorities said he was seen committing a lewd act in front of other students in the cafeteria of one of the school’s buildings.
Information from the Jersey City Police Department was not immediately available and school officials did not respond to a request for more information Wednesday afternoon, but police said in police radio transmissions the incident occurred in the Junior Academy building.
Police said in the radio transmissions the boy was laying on the floor just after 3 p.m. and appeared to touching himself, according to other students in the cafeteria. Police also said there as video of the incident.
It could not immediately be determined if the boy was charged. Police said in radio transmissions the boy was being taken to a local hospital for a psychiatric examination.
